Five thoughts on Week 8 of the NFL season:
1 - Congratulations to Payton Manning on breaking the NFL passing touchdown record. What is even more impressive is that Manning broke Farve's record is far less games. At this point Manning is showing no signs of slowing down which means he will keep adding to this record. This is not good since he plays for the Bronco's now. For now I can respectfully dislike Manning, but once he retirees I can going back to liking him. Here is hoping once the season is over we will see him on SNL again.
2 - Don't turn off a Lions game at half time, even if they are losing. In the last two weeks they have erased a 7 point (and 14 points early in the 3rd) and 21 point half time deficient to the Saints and Falcon respectively to move to 6-2 on the season heading in to their bye week. What is more impressive is they have done with without Calvin Johnson, just wait until he gets healthy.
3 - New England put up 31 points in the points in the 2nd quarter to blow out the Bears. While the Bears are not great this year, the are not awful either. What is the most impressive about this is that in the 2nd quarter the Patriots scored more points than all but what 6 teams could in an entire football game.
4 - The Cardinals are for real! At 6-1 they have a 2 game lead over both San Francisco (which they have beat) and Seattle. They have also beat good teams (however they have all been at home) like San Diego and Philadelphia. Their one loss is to Denver on the road and there is no shame in that. With their quarterback injuries hopefully behind them we will have to see if they can hold on. All but three of their games are against teams with winning records. They have Detroit, Kansas City and Seattle at home and have to go to Dallas, Seattle and San Francisco.
5 - The Cowboys are not as good as their record. They have been bailed out this season on a career year by DeMarco Murray (already over 1,000 yards 8 games in to the season). At 6-2 it will be hard for the Cowboys to not make the playoffs, but there is a chance. Half of their remaining games are against sub .500 teams, but they are all on the road and their three remaining home games are against the Cardinals, Eagles and Colts.
My Top 5 NFL teams right now:
1. Denver 6-1
2. New England 6-2
3. Arizona 6-1
4. Detroit 6-2
5. Philadelphia 5-2
The top 4 teams were easy to pick, however there were so many teams that could have gone in to spot 5.
