College Football Playoff Power Rankings - Week 9

Below are my thoughts on where the college football teams stand at the end of the games on 10/25 and what I think the season will play out and what teams will actually make the four team playoff.

Top 4 teams as of this week:        Remaining games against contenders:
1. Mississippi State 7-0                Alabama and @ Ole Miss
2. Florida State 7-0                       None
3. Alabama 7-1                             Mississippi State and Auburn
4. Oregon 7-1                                None



Other teams in no order:               Remaining games against contenders:
Michigan State 7-1                       Ohio State
Ole Miss 7-1                                 Auburn and Mississippi State
Auburn 6-1                                   @ Ole Miss, @ Georgia and @ Alabama
Notre Dame 6-1                            @ Arizona State
Georgia 6-1                                   Auburn
TCU 6-1                                        Kansas State
Kansas State 6-1                            @ TCU and @ Baylor
Baylor 6-1                                      Kansas State
Ohio State 6-1                               @ Michigan State

The SEC, Big 10 and PAC 12 all have conference championship games that should result in another game against a contender for those teams. The ACC also has a championship game but Florida State is currently the on contending team from the conference. At this point it does not look like any team with two losses in the regular season will make the 4 team playoff.


Here is my projection of the 4 teams that will make the playoff at the end of the season.

#1 Alabama
#2 Florida State
#3 Oregon
#4 TCU

• A one loss SEC West champion will get a spot even if they don't win the conference championship game.
• An undefeated ACC team that wins the conference championship game will get a spot.
• A one loss PAC 12 team that wins the the conference championship game will get a spot.
• A one loss SEC East champion that wins the conference championship game will get a spot. I do not expect this to happen.
• A one loss Big 12 champion will get a spot if one of the above does not happen.
• A one loss Big 10 champion that wins the conference championship game will get a spot if two of the above do not happen. I do not expect two of the above not to happen.
