Today's Sports 11/2/2014

Week 9 of the NFL with the top teams in the NFC and AFC playing each other, day 2 of the MLS Conference Semifinals and a Manchester derby in the Premier League.

English Premier League
Manchester United at Manchester City - 7:30 AM Central - NBCSN
Going in to the 10th game of the season City is sitting third in the table with 17 points while United is sitting either in the table with 13 points.

NFL
For all my NFL Week 9 Picks

New York Jets at Kansas City Chiefs - Noon Central - CBS
Coming in to this game the Jets are 1-7 while Kansas City has just moved above .500 on the season at 4-3. The Jets have turned the ball over an amazing 18 times already this season and are starting back-up quarterback Michael Vick in this game. I always worry about a team that is playing bad going on the road against a team that should beat them easily because they have nothing to lose. Kansas City has everything to lose in this game because a loss here would almost end their chances at getting back in to the playoff hunt. It is going to be a beautiful fall day in Kansas City and the city is still energized from the Royals playoff run so the fans will be in to this game. The Chiefs are just playing too good with Charles on offense and Houston on defense. The Chiefs will also break the streak this week and a wide receive will catch a touchdown pass.  Kansas City will put this game away early and cruise to a 31-13 victory

Arizona Cardinals at Dallas Cowboys - Noon Central - FOX
The battle of the two best teams in the NFC Arizona sits at 6-1 and Dallas is at 6-2. Arizona has played a much more difficult schedule than Dallas to this point. I watch Arizona and I am still trying to figure out how they are winning, but they are and that is all that matters. The biggest question in this game is can Romo play and if he can, can he be effective (as much as normal)? My guess right now is that Romo will play and will play close to normal. I am taking Arizona to win 31-27

San Diego Chargers at Miami Dolphins - Noon Central - CBS
This is a game were San Diego at 5-3 after two straight losses needs to get back to winning while Miami 4-3 needs to keep winning to stay in the playoff hunt. I think Miami is a good team, but not as good as San Diego. San Diego after a home loss to Kansas City and a road loss to Denver is going to be motivated to win before heading in to their bye week. San Diego wins this game 27-20

Denver Broncos at New England Patriots - 3:25 PM Central - CBS
In the game between the two best teams in the AFC and arguably the NFL the biggest story line may be the weather. At kick off the forecast has temperatures in the low 40's with wind chills in the low 30's and by the end of the game temperatures will be in the upper 30's with wind chills in the upper 20's, the wind will also be a factor between 15 and 20 miles per hour. Denver is sitting at 6-1 while New England has played one more game and is at 6-2. This game could go a long way to deciding where the AFC Championship game will be played in January, which is huge as home field advantage will play a major roll in who wins. I think the weather story line will become an after thought and we will see a good football game between two real good teams - New England wins this game 34-31.

Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers - 7:30 PM Central - NBC
This might be the best game of the weekend as 5-3 Baltimore and 5-3 Pittsburgh face off. Both teams are right behind Cincinnati and the winner will be in a very good position for a wild card and the loser will be on the outside. Pittsburgh looked great against Indianapolis last week, but the Baltimore defense is a lot better than the Colts. The Ravens will be looking to not drop back to back games against division teams after their loss in Cincinnati last week. I look for Baltimore to pull out the win 28-27

MLS Playoffs
#1 DC United at #4 New York Red Bulls - 3:00 PM Central - MLS Live
While I still expect DC United to win this round, I think New York will win this leg at home. New York is looking very strong right now and everyone looks healthy. The will need to win by as much as they can and hold DC United scoreless before heading to DC next weekend. New York will take the first leg 2-0

#1 Seattle at #4 Dallas - 8:00 PM Central - ESPN2
Anything less than a shutout win will not be enough for Dallas to win this round. Seattle is just too good to be shut out. Seattle is just looking to stay healthly and not lose this game to put them in good shape to advance. Seattle does what they need to in a 1-1
