Five thoughts from NFL Week 9
1 - The AFC North is going to be a tight division. The best part is that these are all good teams (yes even the Browns) and this race could come all the way down to the final week of the season, Pittsburgh hosts Cincinnati. All of the teams currently have winning records and the Ravens are in last place with a record of 5-4. There have been years where I would wonder if the winner of this division would have a winning record or not, this year I find myself wondering will there be a team with a losing record.
2 - The AFC Wildcard races is going to be fantastic. Right now Pittsburgh is the first wildcard team at 6-3. Right behind them tied for the last spot are four teams tied at 5-3; Chiefs, Dolphins, Bills and Browns. If this race was not tight enough the Chargers and Ravens are both sitting at 5-4. I think there is a chance that Pittsburgh can win the division and then the Bengals at 5-2-1 are in the wildcard mix as well. The season is half over and this will be a lot of fun to watch how this unfolds.
3 - The race for the number one pick in the NFL draft. After talking about the good teams it is time to look at the four doormats of the NFL. The Raiders are in the drivers seat at 0-8, with the Jets and Jaguars right behind at 1-8 and the Buccaneers are 1-7. Oakland seems to be in games late, or make come backs, but always find a way to lose. The Jaguars are getting better each game they play, they may get a couple more wins this year. Tampa Bay plays in the worst division and already has two overtime losses, while not good, they are the best of these four teams. The Jets are just falling apart and may not win another game. However the Jets one win on the season came in the opening weekend against the Raiders, which means the Raiders would have to win two games to pass the Jets if they don't win a game.
4 - The rest of the NFL has all rights to hate the Chiefs at this point. Since the Patriots were blown out on Monday Night Football in Kansas City 41-14 the Patriots have been on fire. In the five games since that they are 5-0 winning by an average score of 40 to 22. What is more impressive is in these games three teams have winning records and two are currently division leaders. Hopefully for the sake of the rest of the NFL the bye week can slow this team down.
5 - Ben Roethlisberger is on fire. Two straight games with six touchdown passes in both and these games were against the Colts and Ravens. Ben's statistics this year are on par with the elite quarterbacks in the league; Luck 26 TDs 9 INTs, Manning 24 TDs 5 INTs, Brady 24 TDs 3 INTs while Ben has 22 TDs with 3 INTs.
My Top 5 NFL teams right now:
1. New England 7-2
2. Arizona 7-1
3. Denver 6-2
4. Philadelphia 6-2
5. Pittsburgh 6-3
I really had a hard time knocking the 6-2 Lions out of the top 5 when they did not play, but in a head to head game right now I think all of these teams would beat the Lions.
